Birthday Party for Laura/X-23

It's a pretty low-key party, all things considered, and not significantly different than the one Parker or Meg would have thrown in a dorm room for a friend at home, not-exactly-traditional menu not withstanding.

There's music, low enough to talk over (and maybe with a little more folk in the mix than one expects to find a party). Balloons and streamers in purple and blue and red. A place to leave presents. People to meet or catch up with.

And, most importantly, a chance to wish X-23 (or Laura) a very happy birthday.

It seems to be going well, in Meg's opinion.

Which means she can relax a little and talk to people.

(Though she's still going to occasionally look over to make sure they aren't running low on garlic bread.)

Maybe Ingress has seen Meg around and maybe not. In any case, she seems very nice.

Castiel, much like the guest of honor, finds himself drifting to the fringes of the party.

It provides a better vantage point for observing.

And then there are the balloons.

Castiel is examining a purple one with great interest.

Parker has to admit, she's pretty impressed with what she and Meg have managed to pull together here.

The party is very much Laura. And people seem to be having a good time.

Parker takes a moment to grab a soda and survey the crowd.

Ingress is not stealing any icing roses... mostly because there are none to steal! The root beer floats are nummy, though, and there are lots of nice people to talk to here.

Castiel has wondered about the little girl since their last meeting. He is glad to see that she looks happy.

"Hello, Ingress."

"You look well."

Elle hasn't decided whether or not to have a root beer float yet. She might be wondering if anyone would notice if she just filled a glass with ice cream.

But she sees the blue-haired girl, wanders over to her.

Curious: "You like them?" Elle really can't remember whether she'd had root beer floats when she was younger.

Elle is being good.

This should be evidenced by the fact that none of the balloons have popped under mysterious circumstances.

But those balloons do tend to be what her eyes wander to when she's not occupied by something else.

Dinah and Elle have not talked - well, at all, Skrull invasions aside. It's the balloon watching that catches Dinah's eye, though.

"Are they evil?" she asks.

There is a radio communication device with a looming red button, with an accompanying sign.

Because SARAH can only somewhat come to the party girl, X meets her halfway.

Which is to say, since she has seen this communication device before, X approaches and pushes the red button.

"SARAH."

Beat.

"You are okay?"

She would ask about having a good time, but the words aren't that easy for her yet. Maybe next time.

The red button draws Alanna's attention like a beacon on a dark night. Curiosity gets the better of her and besides, it's better than standing around looking uncomfortable.

It might be a trick, or a joke; if she doesn't press it she'll never find out. So she does, keeping her back to the center of the room.

She doesn't say anything afterward, however, not having much experience with such devices. But she does clear her throat.

"Good evening, SARAH. Is everything working okay? Can you hear everyone?"

At some point, probably after the sugar rush of her second lemonade, Alanna forces herself to move away from the wall and at least make a nominal effort at mingling. She smiles, walks through the crowd and somehow ends up by the opposite wall.

Whoops.

He tries not to look out of place, but even in casual clothes, no mask in sight, he looks like he stumbled in from elsewhere. Parties are not his thing anymore.

Sometime after putting her present down and snagging her own glass of lemonade -- she'll save a float for "dessert" -- Kate takes up a piece of prime real estate between the two tables.

She's pretty sure she doesn't know anybody here except Laura.

Sam has both hands shoved in his pockets, and is currently leaning against a wall out of the way of the dangling streamers.

He's tall enough that he has to duck them when moving around, so this is kind of like taking a break before he wanders back into the crowd.

Jamie's leaning against the food table, doing his best to project an air of just happening to be there while he talks to people. (Instead of what he is actually doing, which is reaching out every ten minutes or so to grab a piece of garlic bread. Sorry, Meg! He's a teenaged boy, and it's there.)

Zoe has a soda and is looking around to see if there's anyone here she knows. She is studiously avoiding the intercom to talk to SARAH.

At some point during the festivites, the door swings open to admit... nobody. Nobody at ground level anyway. The door closes with a slam. Anyone glancing upwards over the course of the evening may likely catch a glimpse of a blue creature scuttling about on the ceiling. Pay no attention to the cylindrical package clamped in his jaws.

Medusa...is bad at mingling. To start with, the gold wings make her stand out. And then you add in that she spends most of her time in a cave with two other people, and the curse, and it's no real surprise that the Gorgon is keeping her eyes down and herself out of the way. Mostly, scenting out for someone she knows, although she wouldn't object to talking with anyone else.

This garlic bread is pretty good...but Duo tries to keep it in moderation. No one wants to talk to you at a party if you've got garlic breath.

He's watching everyone with the interest obvious on his face. He wants to know who everyone is- who made the effort to be friends with X-23 (Laura).
