Birthday Party for Laura/X-23

It's a pretty low-key party, all things considered, and not significantly different than the one Parker or Meg would have thrown in a dorm room for a friend at home, not-exactly-traditional menu not withstanding.

There's music, low enough to talk over (and maybe with a little more folk in the mix than one expects to find a party). Balloons and streamers in purple and blue and red. A place to leave presents. People to meet or catch up with.

And, most importantly, a chance to wish X-23 (or Laura) a very happy birthday.

"I wonder why people don't like sweet things. Door and I love chocolate but Tom never eats it. It's so good, though."

"Maybe she didn't have them a lot."

"She never got to pretend for fun, either. That's kind of sad."

"It is?"

She remembers doing that, but only very, very vaguely. Her father wasn't into 'pretend' games.

"I think so. I get to pretend for fun all the time and it's- fun, you know?"

Maybe Elle doesn't know. She talks a little bit like Laura sometimes.

"Do you? I mean, when you were little, did you play games and laugh and pretend to be a princess and stuff?"

But that's not how she wants to say it.

"Maybe. Before I.... Just for a while."

Wow. Angels who don't get ice cream, friends who don't pretend for fun. Ingress is feeling pretty lucky all of a sudden, and her life hasn't been all hugs and puppies.

"You and Laura should come to my house for a tea party. Then we can all play and pretend."

"Why would it be pretend?"

Don't you just... drink tea at a tea party?

"Because you have to dress up. I have lots and lots of dress up clothes."

She'll accept this.

"Are they all - your size?"

That could be a problem. Unless she can use magic to make them bigger or something.

"Some are, but some were Door's, so they'd fit you both. She's as tall as you, I think."

"X might need help."

She's not always great with pretty stuff.

"I'll teach her," she says with a huge smile. Finally, she can teach a grownup who is better than her at fighting something.

Elle doesn't know that much about what Ingress thinks is pretty, but seriously, she has blue hair. That has to be a good thing, right?
