Birthday Party for Laura/X-23

It's a pretty low-key party, all things considered, and not significantly different than the one Parker or Meg would have thrown in a dorm room for a friend at home, not-exactly-traditional menu not withstanding.

There's music, low enough to talk over (and maybe with a little more folk in the mix than one expects to find a party). Balloons and streamers in purple and blue and red. A place to leave presents. People to meet or catch up with.

And, most importantly, a chance to wish X-23 (or Laura) a very happy birthday.

Meg pushes the red button.

"Good evening, SARAH. Is everything working okay? Can you hear everyone?"

"Oh yes, the location sounds to be extremely centralized. It is appreciated.

"Is everyone having a good time? Is X-23 socializing?"

Y'know. As she does.

"Good.

"And, yes, I think they are. And a lot of people came and Laura is talking to them, so, yes, she's socializing."

She must. If Laura didn't socialize, this party would have three people and a small plate of pasta.

"I was happy to hear she had so many friends in Milliways."

"Yes. Me, too. She deserves it.

"I didn't really know how many people to expect.

"Can you see any of it, or just hear?"

"Just hear.

"It takes time to manufacture any sort of visual input system," SARAH offers as explanation.

"I'm taking some pictures to give Laura. If you'd like me to bring copies by later, I will. So you can see, sort of."

There's some interesting self-editing going on, since pictures with, say, Stitch in them might raise eyebrows in a Montreal photo development place. But a lot of Laura's friends at least look human, and if anyone asks, Meg will just say it was a costume party.

"That would be greatly appreciated. I should be able to scan them immediately."

Anticipating the other potential concern, "My residents know about Milliways, so if you would like, I can make the copies for X-23 instead."

"Oh, yes, that would be wonderful. . . I mean, I think I could have explained anything, but this way I can just not have to worry about it."

And take pictures of everyone.

"It's 35mm film, if that's not a problem."

Meg's from a time before digital cameras.

But she's a good photographer.

That gives SARAH pause.

"I have someone reliable I can have develop it for you who is familiar with Milliways," SARAH replies eventually. "I do not have access to the necessary chemicals to do so myself."

"That should work, then," says Meg, easily.

"I'll bring it by when I bring back your . . . button device.

"Thank you, very much."

"Thank you, Meghan, for helping me."

At some undetermined point in the future, there is quiet, bouncy music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSYxT9GM0fQ) filtering in through the device.

What? SARAH is hip.

[OOC: Yay music! Shall we call that fade? And figure out what sort of photographic follow-up, if any, to have later? :)]
