Birthday Party for Laura/X-23

It's a pretty low-key party, all things considered, and not significantly different than the one Parker or Meg would have thrown in a dorm room for a friend at home, not-exactly-traditional menu not withstanding.

There's music, low enough to talk over (and maybe with a little more folk in the mix than one expects to find a party). Balloons and streamers in purple and blue and red. A place to leave presents. People to meet or catch up with.

And, most importantly, a chance to wish X-23 (or Laura) a very happy birthday.

At some point during the festivites, the door swings open to admit... nobody. Nobody at ground level anyway. The door closes with a slam. Anyone glancing upwards over the course of the evening may likely catch a glimpse of a blue creature scuttling about on the ceiling. Pay no attention to the cylindrical package clamped in his jaws.

...of course not. Duo eyes Stitch warily as he scampers across the ceiling. It's a little disconcerting, seeing someone disobey the laws of gravity so flagrantly.

It takes a few minutes to spot the familiar face, but when he does Stitch's eyes widen slightly in recognition. He offers a wave, grinning around the present.

He waves as well. "You wrap that yourself?" Don't answer verbally, Stitch. Duo does not want to catch something covered in your saliva.

Thankfully, a verbal reply is not offered. Instead Stitch nods like a bobblehead in the midst of a 6.8 seismic event. And then releases his hold on the ceiling to land with decent precision and all the grace of a brick on the floor beside Duo.

The present is removed with a soft "shlorp!'ing sound.

"heh-Hiiiiiii."

"Hi," Duo says, amused. "Not bad for a guy with four fingers. Having fun yet?"

Stitch extends his secondary arms and waggles his eyebrows. Sixteen actually.

"Ih. Bootifa iddibidepah!"

"-you know, that explains a lot."

He leans against the wall. "You know any of these people, besides our birthday girl?"

One set of fingers taps Stitch's chin as thought as his peers out at the crowd, ears fanning forward. After a few seconds he shrugs and holds out a hand palm down. The hand is wobbled.

"Cass. Elle. Ingress..."

Each name is accompanied by a pointing claw. several more remain nameless but are pointed to just the same. He doesn't know any of them well, but they've met. And of course he recognizes the scents of several he's never met in person.

Duo nods attentively, and points out who he knows in return. "Meg, she's one of the ones who planned this whole thing. I know Ingress' name, but we haven't been introduced. Elle showed up to bartending, but I didn't catch her name. Liz, she's cool. 's about it."

Stitch peers dutifully in the directions in which Duo points. If the slight tenseness that had crept into his posture at the first mention of Elle had been bordering on the subtle, the grimace that appears as she's brought up again is anything but. Stitch's poker face leaves something to be desired.

"What," Duo says. "She doesn't appreciate your sparkling personality?" He's not sure how serious Stitch's objection to her is, yet.

"Naga Bootifa." mutters Stitch, making a rather eloquent face.

She talks during movies. And sort of tortured a guy for information.

Cass is leaning against the wall out of the way. She's sipping her third (fourth? fifth? twelfth?) massive rootbeer float. Her eyes flick to the blue thing just long enough for him to notice her do it.

He'll find her when he's ready.

The narration feels for her bladder.

Stitch visibly brightens, grinning around the edges of his gift before offering a wave.

She waves back with the hand not holding the float. It would be a shame to spill any, after all.

Hi there, blue guy!

Which is all the invitation Stitch needs to descend from the ceiling and come to a horizontal (albeit headfirst) halt on the wall immediately to Cass' right. He offers an inquiring growl and snuffles at her beverage.

She holds the glass out to him, offering him a drink if he wants. It's delicious! Which is written all over her face.

Fountain glasses have wide brims. This is fortunate if you decide to faceplant in to one. He emerges seconds later, grinning with melted ice cream on his nose. It is licked off.

Cass beams back. SEE? IT IS DELICIOUS! She takes her own enormous gulp, which is obviously enjoyed.

But between the two of them it is now empty...

TRAGEDY!

A conundrum indeed! Fortunately, he has an idea.

The alien holds up a claw, snatches the glass out of her hand, scurries down to the floor and off to the buffet table. It has thankfully been restocked. He returns quickly, gift now absent and bearing two floats. They're a tad heavy on the dairy product. There's no such thing as too much ice cream.

Cass agrees and reaches out to take both glasses. Then she frowns.

What about Stitch? Doesn't he want a float too?

HEY!

"Grrr."

Cass is handed her ONE float. The other is upended into Stitch's maw rather pointedly.

Stitch is so stingy! Cass would pout, but she has a rootbeer float.

Maybe later? For now she upends her own glass. But she drinks at a more stately pace. It takes five or six swallows before it's empty.

Wheras Stitch manages to polish his off in four. A considerable amount of vanilla froth dribbles down the corners of his mouth.

"Gaba jituka?"

Perhaps the curious headtilt will help?
