Birthday Party for Laura/X-23

It's a pretty low-key party, all things considered, and not significantly different than the one Parker or Meg would have thrown in a dorm room for a friend at home, not-exactly-traditional menu not withstanding.

There's music, low enough to talk over (and maybe with a little more folk in the mix than one expects to find a party). Balloons and streamers in purple and blue and red. A place to leave presents. People to meet or catch up with.

And, most importantly, a chance to wish X-23 (or Laura) a very happy birthday.

Cass beams in welcome and holds out the icecream.

For which she has failed to obtain a scoop.

Oops?

There are two options here.

X could cut chunks of ice-cream with the knife Rose gave her for Christmas, or she could go get a spoon.

Guess which option she chooses?

The knife is handier! And using the knife would mean that Cass gets to examine it. And she likes knives. Especially nice knives.

And Rose has taste!

Rose does.

And the knife is metaphorically X, too. Surely this makes it nicer.

And now they can pour root beer over the ice cream.

Everyone wins.

Even the knife! For they're made to be used, after all, and it probably feels quite gratified to be used for its intended purpose!

Cass takes her glass and lifts it in another silent salute. It's apparently a tradition now?

Since X leans forward to clink her glass against Cass'--

Yes.

It is definitely a tradition.
